Oakville Minor Hockey Association OMHA has just successfully completed their second annual Gift of Giving Back Campaign. Their young hockey players really worked hard and they are excited to report that they more than doubled last year’s results; bringing in 63,991 lbs. of food for Oakville food share agencies.
This food drive is really ‘kids feeding kids’ but OMHA was fortunate to add some strong community partners to campaign this year. Garth Webb Secondary School provided the perfect host venue for this year’s weigh-in and sorting nights and their staff and students provided invaluable support throughout the event. The Oakville Fire Fighters made really quick work of unloading and loading the trucks, putting down the wood floor, sorting food and showing their support throughout the event. Stevenson’s Rentall in Oakville made light work of heavy bins by providing some really needed equipment. The Salvation Army was on site with volunteers, food bins and trucks. Longo’s loaned the Gift of Giving Back grocery carts to help the kids move their food into the school for weighing and Matrix Scales provided the weigh scales. The Tim Horton’s truck welcomed everyone at the door, providing coffee and hot chocolate, keeping our workers going. We couldn’t have done it without our community partners. Thank you for supporting our kids in their efforts to provide for the less fortunate in our community.
All food collected was donated to the Salvation Army and will stay in the community.
The Gift of Giving Back and community partners want to thank the generous community of Oakville for their contributions.
